For the second year in a row, the Marikina City government through the office of the City Mayor Marcelino Teodoro is graciously hosting the biggest safe space in the country for LGBTQIA+ people. This year, we are holding this historical event at an equally historic location: The Marikina Sports Center. Host to international events like the 1973 Asian Athletics Championships and the 2014 ASEAN School Games, the Sports Center is now the host for the 2018 Metro Manila Pride March and Festival.

The first Pride March in Southeast Asia and the second in the continent, happened in Quezon City in 1994. What started as a 60 person march 24 years ago, has now grown to a community of 7,718 LGBTQIA+ people and allies marching for our rights. This year’s route is 2 kilometers long. It will start at the Marikina Sports Center and will pass through major local thoroughfares like Sumulong Highway and Shoe Avenue. With the anticipated number of participants this year, the march proper will take around 2 hours from start to finish.
