In celebrating this year’s Metro Manila Pride March and Festival, we come together to advance the call for love.
Let Love In: Kahit Kanino, Kahit Kailan
Walang pinipili ang pag-ibig.
Almost everyday, we are reminded that hatred exists in the world. The only way to end this is through love. At this year’s Metro Manila Pride March and Festival, we call on all Filipinos to let love into their homes, their communities, and the whole country.
Love may have become an overused term for many, but for LGBTQIA+ people, being able to love freely and without fear is still a far-fetched dream. People who identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, intersex, asexual, and other sexual orientations and gender identities (LGBTQIA+) are still persecuted, thrown out of their homes, denied education and employment, and subjected to abuse and violence.
They are still denied the freedom to live their authentic selves.
LGBT Filipinos and their families, friends, and allies need to band together and work towards a future where all human beings are able to live their truths with dignity.
In working under this year’s campaign, Metro Manila Pride is committed to:
Continuing the discourse on the human rights of LGBTQIA+ people by creating various platforms that makes literacy on these rights more accessible.
Highlighting more stories of LGBTQIA+ people in the safe spaces we create to cultivate a stronger sense of community and give human faces to our cause.
Sending a message to young people who hide deep inside the closet and the older folk forced to live there in fear all their lives that they deserve to love and be loved, and that their voice in our community matters.
Encouraging more families, friends, and other non-LGBTQIA+ people to join us in our campaign for human rights.
We may have come out for love and fought for love but our work is unfinished until all members of the LGBTQIA+ community can enjoy the freedoms and protections they deserve. Now, more than ever, LGBT Filipinos and their families, friends, and allies need to band together. Let us work towards a future where all human beings are able to live their truths with dignity. To do this, we must let love in.
Love excludes no one. After all, it is central to being human.
As we celebrate another year of pride, let us raise our voices—boisterous with Pride and strong with equal rights activism—because at their core, Pride and the fight for human rights is all about love.
